Consensus Updates: Bitcoin Core

The idea behind a consensus update is that since Bitcoin is decentralized, no one person can say “this is the change we’re going to make in the protocol.” Everybody has to agree, and come to consensus for an update to go through.

There is a centralized team working on these protocol changes, the Bitcoin Core team, along with a few other people that work on specific parts of the software.

This is the software that’s used in full nodes.
